Brady Conatser Cunningham, TN – On December 27th Brady Conatser suffered a fall after fainting resulting in a spinal injury to his c4 vertebrae. He was life-flighted to Vanderbilt Trauma Unit where he underwent a series of 4 surgeries to stabilize his condition. Since the accident Brady has since been able to breath without the assistance of the ventilator, and has had some movement in his arms.

The family is working to raise funds to get him into the Shepard Center in Atlanta, GA; a world renowned rehabilitation center that specializes in spinal cord injuries. “We are keeping our fingers crossed that they accept Brady as a patient because this facility is Brady’s absolute best chance at recovery,” said Vicki Self, Brady’s mother. The families insurance has indicated that this treatment will not be covered under their policy. Continue reading 'Brady Conatser fell on December 27th injuring his spine'»

From the life flight crew to the trauma unit at Vanderbilt to the EXCEPTIONAL staff on the neurology icu unit all the way to the shepherd center we have received nothing but open arms and a wonderful group of people to work with. I thank each and every one of you!!!!! Brady is coming home on Friday April 6 . He will continue therapy at home to gain some strength. He is looking very toward to it. Will post as discharge gets closer.

Kenny and I will be leaving tomorrow afternoon to head to Atlanta to see Brady. I will post a current update once we get there.

Brady is now able to eat whatever he wants

By , January 23, 2012 2:36 am

Brady’s trach tube has been downsized and he is now able to eat anything he wants, with the exception of rice. He is completely off all oxygen now and he is breathing on his own. He is able to talk around his trach even without the speaking valve. He enjoyed watching the auction which was live streamed to his computer thanks to Mark Haynes and clarksvilleonline. He would like to thank everyone for coming and all those who worked so hard putting the auction together. He is very happy with the outcome!

Brady started Physical Therapy today and got his Wheelchair

By , January 19, 2012 11:06 pm

Brady had physical therapy today and seems to be in very good spirits. He operated his wheelchair today by himself by puff and sip, which is using his mouth. They put his speaking valve in for a short time today and he is able to talk. He ate Macaroni and Cheese and Mashed Potatoes and gravy today and got to go outside for the first time.

He will be able to take his first shower tomorrow. He also has a full day of therapy tomorrow and we will let you know how it goes!

Thanks for your best wishes!

Brady made it to the Shepard Center for rehabilitation this afternoon. He is in his room and the room is set up so he is somewhat self sufficient. He is able to change the channels on the tv and to call the nurse if he needs to. As his rehab starts we will keep you posted on his ongoing progress.

Again thank you all for the thoughts and prayers.
